In Greene County district court Nicholas Joseph White, 40, of Newton was sentenced Oct. 11 to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal mischief- first degree. The prison term is concurrent to the term in a Jasper County case. He is jointly and severally liable with co-defendants for $2,000 victim restitution. He was fined $1,377 with a $206.55 surcharge; both were suspended. in the same case, White was sentenced to five years in prison (concurrent) on a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Charges of trespass causing more than $300 damage and theft- second degree were dismissed. Court costs were $403.58. A companion case against White in magistrate court in which he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. He must pay $95.50 court costs.
Ryan Joseph Murphy, 40, of Jefferson was sentenced Oct. 11 to 10 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for 2-5 years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $1,000 with a $150 surcharge; both were suspended. Murphy was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of keeping, permitting or maintaining premises or other drug environment, consecutive to the previous count. The prison term was suspended. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. Murphy must pay $1,150 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $200 court costs. (Sentencing: Polking)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Melissa Sue Larson, 42, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia; Timothy Glen Pittman, 29, of Lehigh, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; Jackson Lee Norton, 29, of Dexter, possession of contraband in correctional facility, dominion/control of firearm or offensive weapon as a felon; and Vashara Tameteria Gwendo Green, 23, of West Des Moines, possession of marijuana- second offense. Trial dates were set for Dec. 7 for Ptttman, Norton and Green, and for Jan. 25 for Larson.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Casey Roland Kennedy, 21, of Grand Junction, criminal mischief- second degree and criminal mischief- first degree; Travis Frederick Venteicher, 38, of Grand Junction, possession of marijuana and operating while under influence; and Gary Paul Sinkular, 51, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense.
